Military trucks ferries kidnapped Kankara students home after their release on Thursday. 

It comes six days after gunmen, Boko Haram, invaded the school’s premises and abducted over 300 students.

President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed the release of the kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

In a statement released on Friday , the president said :

“The entire country is grateful to Governor Masari, the Intelligence Agencies, the Military and the Police Force.”

“Our administration is fully aware of the responsibility we have to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. I ask Nigerians to be patient and fair to us as we deal with the challenges of security, the economy, and corruption. We will not relent.”

Released students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara are currently on their way home

The release comes six days after gunmen, Boko Haram, invaded the school’s premises and abducted over 300 students.

The Gunmen, who shot indiscriminately to scare residents, reportedly came on motorbikes last Friday around 11 pm.

While claiming responsibility for the abduction of the pupils in new audio, Boko Haram said the “Katsina abduction was done to discourage western education”.

The released students, who had been in the kidnappers’ den for six days, are currently on their way to Katsina.
