Ford Recalls 17,616 2021 F-Series Super Duty Trucks Bcos Front Wheels Could Come Off
Ford recalls 17,616 F-Series Super Duty trucks from 2021 model year because the front wheels could come off on motion.
There are currently two reports of a front wheel detaching while the truck is in motion.
Ford says no injuries or accidents have been associated with this issue.
US automaker Ford on Monday announced that 17,616 F-Series Super Duty trucks from the 2021 model year would be recalled because there’s a chance the front tyre and wheel assembly will detach from the axle.
The problem is hub extenders that “were not properly tightened by the supplier” and if left unattended to the front wheels could come off.
The affected Ford models include the F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600. Ford says owners might notice “vibration and noise while driving” as the nuts come loose. The automaker, in a statement advised owners of the affected vehicles not to drive their vehicles for the time being.
It added that :
“Due to a supplier process error, the automated torque station for tightening and verifying the torque of the nuts joining the front wheel hub extender to the rotor may have been bypassed at the supplier axle assembly facility. The nuts connecting the front wheel hub extender to the rotor may not have been tightened to specification.”
There are currently two reports of a front wheel detaching while the truck is in motion. However, Ford says no injuries or accidents have been associated with this issue.
Owners of these 2021 models should be on the lookout for a recall notification, starting from June 14. The affected owners are expected to pay no charge for the service.
