Italian Tyre Maker, Pirelli Celebrates Its 150th Anniversary
Italian tyre maker, Pirelli celebrates its 150th anniversary today.
Pirelli was founded on January 28, 1872, by Giovanni Battista Pirelli to produce elasticated rubber items.
It branched out into making tyres for motorcycles in 1899 and car tyres from 1901.
Today, Pirelli tyres adorns some of the world’s most expensive and powerful supercars on road.

Pirelli celebrates its 150th anniversary today. The Italian tyre maker was founded on January 28, 1872, by Giovanni Battista Pirelli to produce elasticated rubber items, before branching out into making tyres for motorcycles in 1899 and car tyres from 1901.
A worldwide countdown, a play, and adverts and stamp, are just some of the actions that Pirelli puts together to celebrate its 150 years of corporate history that touches on F1, rally racing, Superbike, pro cycling, ski championships and football.

Speaking in Milan, Marco Tronchetto Provera, Pirello’s CEO and Executive Vice chairman said the brand wanted to take a journey throughout its history on the occasion of its anniversary.

‘Today we wanted to take a journey together through history but with our eyes on the future.
‘Anticipating change is what Pirelli has done for 150 years thanks to the solidity of its entrepreneurial culture and ability to be a protagonist of the present,’
‘These things have allowed us to reach this milestone with a brand established around the world,’

‘We felt it important to share this story with our city, our country and all the international groups and communities that we work with every day. A thank you to all the 30,000 people who every day at Pirelli build our history.’
Today, Pirelli tyres adorns some of the world’s most expensive and powerful supercars on road, including the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari LaFerrari, F8 Spider and 812 Competizione and McLaren P1. Pirelli is also the sole tyre supplier to F1 racing until 2024.
