NPA Opens New Training Center

The administration of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has opened its training institute at the Apapa Dockyard, as part of its commitment to make continuous learning organizational culture.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Mohammed Bello Koko, said: “Consistently upskilling and reskilling our employees on whom we place a very high premium is our overriding objective as a management team and our readiness to position them to be best in class, is at the core of what this training school sets to achieve.

“As most of us are aware, having in place a robust talent pool is a necessary precondition for operating efficiently in the fiercely competitive terrain that port business is”.
Bello Koko, while recommending the facility to sister agencies in the maritime sector and other industry players seeking a best-in-class training platform for their employees, said that the decision to invest so much in this facility was made with our former employees in mind, some of whom, despite their retirement, are still active.
“We intend to tap into their wealth of experience and institutional knowledge by inviting them as resource persons to train upcoming employees,” he said.
In addition, the Managing Director informed the audience that plans were in the works to collaborate on curriculum development and capacity building with the World Maritime University, the Nigerian Navy Hydrography Department, the Nigerian Institute of Marine and Oceanography Research, the University of Lagos, and other research and learning institutions.
The complex, which includes a lecture theatre with a seating capacity of 73, a large hall with a seating capacity of 112, a mini hall with a seating capacity of fifty 50, another with 27 and six simulation classrooms that seat 16 people each, a fully automated library, a computer training hall, a canteen with seating capacity of 120 people, and a fully automated library, has the capacity to train 380 people per time.
