FG Completes The Construction Of Second Niger Bridge
The Federal Government announces the completion of construction of 1.6 kilometer-long Second Niger Bridge.
Says commissioning delayed by the construction of interchange road which the recent surge of flooding has impeded.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has announced the completion of construction of 1.6 kilometer-long Second Niger Bridge, adding that the bridge will soon be released to the public for use.
Fashola stated this at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 while presenting President Muhammadu Buhari’s scorecard series (2015-2023).
The Minister however notes that only factor delaying the commissioning of the bridge is the construction of an interchange road which the recent surge of flooding has impeded.

He said :
“I can confirm that the second Niger bridge itself is finished. People can walk through the bridge now unimpeded. What is remaining is a 4km interchange road at the Asaba end and 2km out of a 7km link road at the Onitsha end,”
“Right now, our dredger is in place, we have to rebuild the road by reclaiming sand, the recent surge of flood has slowed us down. On the Onitsha side, there is a 7kilometer road that links the bridge and the Onitsha-Owerri interchange.”

During the briefing, Fashola boasted that the Federal Government has been able to construct and complete at least 8,352.94 kilometres of roads and create no fewer than 339,955 jobs between 2016 and 2022.
The Minister also indicated that the rehabilitation of 12 major roads, spanning 896.187 kilometres, has resulted in the reduction of travel time by 56.20 percent.
