58 Years Ago Today : Lamborghini Unveiled Mid-engine Chassis For Its Iconic Miura
58 Years Ago Today : Lamborghini unveiled mid-engine chassis for its flagship Miura at the Turin Motor Show.
The chassis was designed by Lamborghini’s three top engineers, who envisioned a road car with racing pedigree.
They hoped to convince Ferruccio Lamborghini that such a vehicle would not distract from the company’s focus.
After the chassis’ stellar receptions at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, Lamborghini contracted Bertone, to design the body.
Named after the famous Spanish fighting bull breeder, the Lamborghini Miura was produced between 1966 and 1973.
It was the first supercar with a mid-engined 2-seat layout, a layout that has since become standard for high-performance sports cars.

Today November 3rd marks fifty-eight (58) years since Italian carmaker Lamborghini pulled the wraps off its first rear mid-engine chassis for its now iconic Lamborghini Miura sports car at the 1965 Turin Motor Show.
This very first legendary Miura rolling chassis shown at the 1965 Turin Auto Show was sold by leading automotive auction house Gooding and Company for $473,000 back in 2013.

The chassis was designed by Lamborghini’s three top engineers, Giampaolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace, who envisioned a road car with racing pedigree, hoping to convince company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini that such a vehicle would not distract from the company’s focus.
After the chassis’ stellar receptions from showgoers and the motoring press alike during the 1965 Turin Motor Show, Lamborghini contracted Italian automotive design house, Bertone, to design the body.

Few months after Bertone’s 27-year-old designer Marcello Gandini styled the prototype, the original supercar debuted at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. A favourable reaction at the show means that the P400 was to go into production the following year.
