Elon Musk Dashes Hopes Of An Affordable Tesla

Elon Musk Unveils Tesla Cybercab, A Self-driving Robotaxi With No Steering Wheel Or Pedals - autojosh

Anyone hoping that Tesla would introduce a cheaper Model 2 or even a Model 1 priced up to $25,000 will be disappointed. Nothing from an affordable Tesla, at least not shortly. This was confirmed by Elon Musk himself, saying that such a car does not make sense. Namely, Tesla will strive for fully autonomous vehicles, and the first goal is to achieve the highest, fifth level of autonomy as soon as possible.

This news comes unexpectedly because it was Musk who released the story about the Model 2 for 25,000 USD to the public. He has been announcing the new product since 2018. Now when asked, “When can we expect a $25,000 Tesla model that isn’t a Robotaxi?”, Musk responded: “I think we’ve been very clear that the future is autonomous.”

Then he talked about how autonomy is the future, that Tesla has been saying this for years and that the Cybercab is a revolutionary vehicle. After that, he finally addressed the real issue, saying, “Basically, having a regular 25K model is pointless. It would be stupid. It would be completely against what we believe.”

The only open question is when Tesla’s fully autonomous model will be ready. The loudest comments are that we are still at least a decade away from the 5th level of autonomy, including the preparation of legislation.
