BMW Preparing To Fit The M2 With All-Wheel-Drive (xDrive)

BMW is preparing to equip the M2 with all-wheel drive, bringing its smallest high-performance model in line with the M3, M4, and M5.
The new M2 xDrive, which was briefly mentioned on BMW’s US website this week, will be offered alongside the existing rear-wheel-drive M2, giving buyers a choice between traditional rear-wheel drive and the added safety of all-wheel drive.
As reported by Autocar, the four-wheel drive system will be paired exclusively with BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission. It is expected to have a choice of driving modes, including a setting that enables full rear-wheel drive.
More details remain under wraps, but indications are that the M2 xDrive will retain the ‘S58’ twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, upgraded from today’s 473 bhp to something closer to the 523 bhp of the M2 CS.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is expected to be under the 4.0-second mark.
Production of the M2 xDrive should begin at BMW’s plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, by mid-year.
