108,000 Outlanders Received A Letter From Mitsubishi, Which Hardly Ever Recalls Anything

With Ford recalling more cars in the US than any other automaker, it seems like we’re writing about a new Ford recall every other day. On the other hand, Mitsubishi is one automaker that hardly ever issues recalls. In fact, it recently issued its first recall of the year, which is only a continuation of a recall that was previously announced.
108,046 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs from 2018 to 2022 and Mitsubishi Outlanders from 2014 to 2020 are affected by this latest recall. According to the automaker, contact with salt water might cause the gas strut cylinder used for the liftgate to rust and perhaps break.
Before this recall, Mitsubishi had previously issued a recall for the same problem in the United States in August of last year. However, only cars in states with heavy road salt usage were covered by this original recall.
These include Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
What’s Changed?
All cars registered in these “Salt Belt” states, either now or in the past, are now covered by the recall. Standard Outlanders were also included and created from April 12, 2013, to December 18, 2020, while affected Outlander PHEV cars were produced between November 13, 2017, and March 11, 2022. The struts will be replaced at no cost by dealers.
