Toyota To Build A New Factory In India

Toyota is already building cars extensively in India but is stepping it up a notch. Toyota Kirloskar Motor, a local joint venture, is opening a new factory.
Since 1997, Toyota has been active in India together with the Kirloskar Group in car production for the local and surrounding markets. Naturally, there are already various production facilities, but another one is being added, Toyota now reports. A factory is being built in Maharashtra, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2029. Around 2,800 people will work there, building roughly 100,000 cars per year. Toyota reports that ‘a new SUV’ will soon roll off the assembly line.
The Toyota Kirloskar Group builds the Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Innova, among others, but is also involved, in collaboration with Suzuki, in the production of the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Admittedly, that model is built by Suzuki in its own Indian factory. However, the Toyota Kirloskar Group’s new factory could potentially start building something destined for this side of the world as well, although that remains to be seen. For the time being, there appear to be plans for production only for India and the surrounding countries.
