This Car’s Screws Alone Are More Expensive Than Those Of A Porsche 911

Two, five, ten million euros! If anyone thinks that the insane price of a hypercar is justified solely by brute force or exotic design, they should take a look at Pagani’s workshop in Modena. The Italian brand, in fact, produces its cars with such obsessive precision that even the tiniest parts are worth a fortune.

Every part is a story of its own, from the screws that cost as much as a new Porsche 911, all the way to the steering wheel that takes hours to separate from a massive block of aluminum weighing 43 kilograms! The founder of the brand, the legendary Horacio Pagani, has always argued that a hypercar must not only be fast but must also be a work of art on wheels. This is precisely why the assembly of just one specimen requires hundreds of man-hours of manual work, using materials from the space industry.

2,000 titanium screws are used!

Popular car journalist Matt Watson from Carwow recently visited the Pagani factory in San Cesario sul Panaro and discovered some mind-boggling details. About 2,000 specially made titanium screws are used to assemble just one Pagani Utopia model, the total value of which is an incredible 140,000 euros! For that money, you can buy a brand-new Porsche 911 in the showroom!

Titanium is inherently light, strong and corrosion-resistant, which is why it is used in the aerospace industry and Formula 1, but Pagani doesn’t stop there. The Pagani logo is microscopically engraved into the head of each individual screw, only 0.002 millimeters (2 micrometers) deep. The sign is practically invisible to the human eye, but it is found on almost every screw on the car. According to Pagani’s philosophy, there is no saving on material or workmanship. The steering wheel is not assembled from several plastic and metal parts but is carved from a single huge block of aluminum.

Only 130 cars will be built!

The initial piece of material weighs as much as 43 kilograms, and after several hours of ultra-precise processing, a light, perfectly shaped skeleton of only 1.7 kilograms remains! This means that more than 95 percent of the precious raw material is removed and discarded to create a unique piece for the rider.

Price – 3.1 million euros, excluding taxes

Not a single detail, not even one that the owner sees once a year, is left to chance. The titanium engine oil dipstick is first screwed all the way into the housing so that the engineers can determine the exact end position of the threads. Only when it is determined where the thread stops are the marks and the inscription engraved on the bar, so that with each subsequent screw the text stands in a perfectly flat, vertical position.

All this obsession with details is crowned with brutal mechanics. The Pagani Utopia Roadster costs 3.1 million euros without tax, and only 130 examples will be made. The car is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine developed specifically for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG. The drive delivers a terrifying 864 horsepower and 1,100 Nm of torque. A special treat for collectors is the option to order a seven-speed manual transmission, which is a real rarity in the world of hypercars today.

The body is made of patented composite materials and carbon fibers, carbo-titanium and carbo-triax, which combine extreme strength and minimal weight. Thanks to this, the entire Utopia, with a powerful V12 engine and an open roof, weighs only 1,280 kilograms! Buyers here are not just paying for a brutal car but a unique engineering masterpiece.
