The Updated Mazda MX-5 For The UK Has A Measely 134 Hp
For over a decade, the ND Mazda MX-5 has remained a top choice for those seeking an affordable, fun-to-drive sports car. While its iconic design persists, Mazda is introducing new updates to the UK lineup.
To ensure the continued sale of the MX-5 through the 2027 model year, Mazda has discontinued the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G engine, leaving the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G as the sole powertrain option. Following the discontinuation of the 184 PS 2.0-liter engine in Europe due to emissions regulations in 2024, the United Kingdom market has now implemented the same change.
Although production of the 2.0-liter variant has ceased, Mazda has confirmed that sufficient inventory remains available to satisfy anticipated customer demand until approximately January 2027. Prospective buyers interested in the larger engine are encouraged to secure remaining stock while it is still available.
The 1.5-liter engine now produces 134 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque, a slight increase from last year. Despite the smaller displacement, it offers an engaging drive with improved handling due to reduced front-axle weight.
Mazda UK added Zinc Green paint and introduced the 1.5L engine to Homura and Homura Plus trims. These grades now feature 16-inch Rays wheels, Brembo brakes, Recaro seats, Bilstein dampers, and a front strut brace.
For 2027, all Mazda MX-5 models now feature a driver monitoring system. The Homura Plus trim adds adaptive LED headlights, rear cross-traffic alert, vehicle exit warning, a rearview camera, and Smart Brake Support (Rear).
