The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has contained a fire involving a compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehicle at Obadore Bridge along the LASU-Igando Road in Lagos, following an emergency response late Friday night, October 23, 2026.

According to the agency, its Beta Response Team from LASEMA’s Igando Base was immediately activated and dispatched to coordinate emergency operations after receiving a distress call at about 11:30 p.m. reporting a vehicle fire at Obadore Bridge, inward Igando.

Upon arrival, responders discovered a CNG-powered car with an unknown registration number completely engulfed in flames. While the immediate cause of the fire could not be established at the time of reporting, LASEMA said the vehicle was burnt beyond recognition.

The agency said its response team worked alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to tackle the blaze, adding that the emergency responders successfully extinguished the fire, preventing the incident from resulting in any reported loss of life.

LASEMA further revealed that the incident resulted in a secondary collision while firefighting operations were underway. A Mercedes-Benz GLE Crossover SUV, bearing registration number AAA 662 KU, reportedly rammed into the fire truck from behind, creating another emergency situation at the scene.

The agency said emergency personnel promptly managed the additional incident. LASEMA confirmed that no casualties were recorded in either incident, although the CNG-powered vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, while the Mercedes-Benz was towed away by a recovery truck.

“The Government continues to strengthen emergency response capacity across all corridors and advises motorists, especially operators of CNG-powered vehicles, to ensure regular safety checks and strict adherence to safety regulations,” LASEMA said in a statement.

The secondary collision involving the Mercedes-Benz SUV, which LASEMA mistakenly identified as a saloon (sedan), highlights the importance of road safety around active emergency scenes, where fire trucks and other response vehicles may be positioned to protect lives and property.
