All-New 5th-Gen BMW X5 Adopts Neue Klasse Design, Introduces Electric iX5

BMW has officially revealed the fifth-generation (G65) X5. The brand’s latest Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) borrows design elements and technology from the Neue Klasse while introducing the first-ever, battery-electric iX5.
The 2027 X5 lineup will be offered in five distinct powertrains, including petrol and diesel with 48V mild hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), fully electric (iX5), and the iX5 Hydrogen—BMW’s first hydrogen-powered production vehicle.

Some of the highlights include a taller, upright front end, a larger matte-finish BMW badge, new double-X light icons integrated into the daytime running lights, and new Winglet door handles finished in high-gloss Black integrated into the B- and C-pillars.

Inside, it features a massive 17.9-inch trapezoidal central touchscreen, a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display, an advanced 3D Head-Up Display, and an optional 14.6-inch front passenger screen that supports video streaming, TV programs, gaming and music.
The base X5 40 xDrive—priced from $69,800—will be the first to arrive this October, followed by the rear-wheel-drive X5 40, plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive and the battery-electric iX5 60 xDrive in the first quarter of 2027.

The V8-powered M Performance variant is scheduled to debut later in 2027. Additionally, iX5 Hydrogen will join the X5 lineup in the future, bringing hydrogen fuel-cell technology to series production and pairing all-electric driving with quick refueling stops.
The 2027 BMW X5 40 xDrive will start at $72,100 while the all-wheel drive X5 50e xDrive PHEV opens at $77,500. The fully electric iX5 60 xDrive—with an estimated 435 miles (approx. 700 kilometers) of range starts at $79,800.

“With its imposing presence and flawless symbiosis of comfort and driving pleasure, the BMW X5 became a global bestseller,” says Dr. Joachim Post, who is responsible for Development at BMW.
“And now the latest generation also benefits from the technologies in the Neue Klasse and the widest possible range of drive systems. As a result, I’m sure the new BMW X5 will set the benchmark in its class once again and write the next chapter in its success story.”
