Car buyers open to less popular models can now leverage high dealer inventory to secure better discounts, financing, and lower prices.

The 2026 Dodge Charger leads CarEdge’s July 2026 report with a 385-day supply, signaling significant leverage for buyers. While high inventory levels often stem from shifting trends or overproduction rather than poor quality, the surplus—10,796 units available versus 1,261 sold—offers shoppers a prime opportunity to negotiate deals on this practical performance sedan.

Electric vehicles remain a significant component of this trend, with the Volkswagen ID.4 ranking second among mainstream models, boasting a 349-day supply. Similarly, the Buick Envision maintains a position in the top ten with 227 days of inventory, despite recording nearly 2,650 sales during the same period; these figures indicate that dealers continue to hold substantial surplus stock.

Jeep models represent a large portion of the remaining list. The two-door Wrangler currently carries a 230-day supply, followed closely by the Gladiator at 222 days. Furthermore, the Grand Wagoneer (215 days), Grand Wagoneer L (204 days), and the all-new Cherokee (199 days) are currently among the slowest-selling mainstream vehicles in the United States.

Increased inventory gives buyers leverage to negotiate better prices on previously high-demand models like the Wrangler, Gladiator, and Grand Wagoneer as dealers offer aggressive incentives to clear stock.

High market-day supply doesn’t mean a car is flawed; it measures how long inventory will last at current sales speeds. As supplies climb, dealer pressure increases, giving buyers leverage to negotiate better deals instead of paying the sticker price.
