Lagos Police Get 2,000 Cowry Cards For 3 Months Of Free BRT, Rail And Boat Rides

The Lagos State Police Command has received 2,000 Cowry Cards from the Lagos State Government, granting the beneficiaries three months (90 days) of free transportation on selected government-operated services across the state.

The cards are part of the state government’s transportation support programme for police personnel and will cover services including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Electric Boats, the Blue Line and Red Line.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s PRO, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the 2,000 beneficiaries will enjoy free transportation for three months, after which they will continue to receive a 50 per cent discount on fares on designated Lagos State Government transport services.

NNPC Retail Limited has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station in Abuja, introducing a technology-driven fuelling experience that allows motorists to buy fuel independently while accessing electric vehicle charging and other mobility services.

Located on Bill Clinton Drive, the new station operates a 24-hour self-service system. Motorists can select their preferred fuel type and exact quantity, make payment and dispense the fuel themselves without relying on a pump attendant.

The Smart Station features 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, backed by storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.

The facility also has an 86-point electric vehicle charging facility, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dispensing facility, lubricant service bay and fully automated car wash, with provision for future Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure.

Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge To Open To Vehicular Traffic On September 30 With Iconic Cane Feature

Motorists in Lagos State must wait just a little longer to ply the highly anticipated 5.04-kilometre Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge, as its official opening to vehicular traffic has been rescheduled for September 30, 2026.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the definitive timeline during a recent inspection of the infrastructure project. He explained that the brief delay is necessary to allow contractors to finalise crucial aesthetic and structural additions.

According to the state government, the “iconic cane” architectural feature currently being erected over the bridge will pay homage to the historical Cane Village, a famous local craft hub that long operated beneath the construction site.

Once opened, the strategic infrastructure will provide a direct alternative corridor linking Opebi, Mende, Maryland, and Ojota. This link is expected to drastically reduce travel times and ease the perennial gridlock historically experienced along Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way.
