Baby Toyota Land Cruiser Breaks Cover And Its A Tough Little SUV

Toyota officially presented the new Land Cruiser FJ, with the announcement that its market launch will follow in the middle of next year.
By adding the new Land Cruiser FJ to the lineup, Toyota will deliver new value in the form of “Freedom and Joy” that comes from enjoying a Land Cruiser your way—while maintaining the reliability, durability, and off-road performance that supports people’s lifestyles. This stems from the desire to enable even more customers to enjoy the Land Cruiser.
Toyota says the Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in Thailand, and that there are no plans to export it to the United States or Europe. Toyota’s focus will be on markets such as Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Reportedly drawing inspiration from its larger cousins, the FJ channels its rugged DNA into a more compact, playful form. The result is a design that is unmistakably Land Cruiser but charmingly pared down.
The offer will include two different front parts reminiscent of those found on the large Land Cruiser. One has a retro-inspired design with circular headlamps, while the other has rectangular units with C-shaped daytime running lights. A minimalist grille joins both with ‘Toyota’ lettering. Further down, there are plastic front fenders with a slightly different design.
The angular fender flares, the massive rear pillar, and the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate also stand out.
Toyota also states that this car will come with removable front and rear corner bumpers, which will allow owners to easily replace damaged parts.
The company also promised many options, including “robust exterior and functional elements” (such as the ARB platform mounted on the roof).
The cockpit layout enables instant recognition and control in a wide range of driving conditions, with a horizontal instrument panel, monitor, and switches that unify functions to minimize eye movement, and a gear lever that allows for natural handling, all to create an interior where users can experience the joy of mobility.
Toyota Safety Sense, an active safety package featuring advanced technologies, including a collision prevention system, supports driving enjoyment with added peace of mind.
The release states that the vehicle achieves outstanding off-road performance worthy of a Land Cruiser, thanks to wheel articulation (the ability of the tire to stay on the ground) equivalent to the 70 Series.
The shorter wheelbase (270 mm shorter than the 250 Series) provides excellent handling with a minimum turning radius of 5.5 m and off-road mobility, giving the Land Cruiser a new appeal.
During development, extensive field testing identified points for improvement to ensure true Land Cruiser reliability, durability, and off-road performance.
