Designed by Hoe Young Hwang, the latest ‘Flying B’ was introduced in the redesigned Bentley Flying Spur luxury sedan in 2019.
Sixth iteration of the ‘Flying B’ is standard of the Flying Spur Mulliner and available as an option on all Bentley Flying Spurs.
The entire process to make the latest design of the Flying ‘B’ bonnet mascot takes about 11 weeks from start to finish.
British luxury marque, Bentley Motors, says that 97 per cent of all Flying Spur luxury sedan orders include a ‘Flying B’, a beautifully polished bonnet mascot above the grille that smoothly slides out of view.
Introduced in the redesigned 2020 Bentley Flying Spur luxury sedan in 2019, the latest ‘Flying B’, chosen from an in-house design shortlist at Crewe, was designed by Hoe Young Hwang.
The sixth iteration of the ‘Flying B’ is standard of the Flying Spur Mulliner and available as an option on all Bentley Flying Spurs. In perfect synchronicity, headlamps and the wings of the bonnet mascot briefly illuminate with a welcoming glow.
In addition to being the first to be deployed electronically, the latest emblem above the radiator of the Flying Spur Mulliner is the first with clear acrylic wings and the first to be internally illuminated.
According to Bentley, the entire process to make the latest design of the Flying ‘B’ bonnet mascot takes about 11 weeks from start to finish, at which it is ready for assembly by World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Europe Ltd.
The first Flying B was introduced in the mid-1920s. But the first Flying ‘B’ bonnet mascot with a retractable mechanism was introduced in 2006 for the Bentley Azure and Brooklands models. The design was offered as an option for the Bentley Mulsanne.
