Speaking with CarBuzz, CEO Franciscus (Frank) van Meel, who returned as chairman of BMW’s high-performance M division last November, said owners of Lamborghini Urus and Mercedes G-Class are among those targeted to buy the BMW XM SUV.
“A lot of people who drive a Lamborghini Urus or Mercedes G-Class say, ‘I want to have something like that from BMW,’ and so for us, it was the logical choice,” said van Meel.
Timo Resch, the Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales for BMW’s M division, supported van Meel’s statement. He admitted that the BMW XM will not attract existing M car owners but existing owners of Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, and Land Rover Range Rover.
BMW XM start at $159,995, while the more powerful Label Red model carries a sticker price of over $185,000. It will arrive at dealers worldwide in spring 2023, with the USA, China and the Middle East being the key sales markets, according to the German brand.
