Bugatti Aims For Higher Top Speed After Mistral’s Record Breaking Feat
Bugatti has just unveiled the fastest convertible in the world and is already setting its sights on achieving an even higher top speed.
The current record for Bugatti is held by the Chiron Super Sport, which once reached 490 km/h. Insanely fast of course and almost 40 km/h faster than the new fastest open car ever; the Bugatti Mistral. Mate Rimac, who is at the helm of parent company Bugatti Rimac, is a little bothered that the Chiron did not go even faster.
Speaking to British Top Gear, the Croatian revealed that he had spoken to Michelin tire technicians to see what else is possible. Reaching an even higher top speed largely depends on whether the rubber can handle it at all. “The question is ‘can we put a five at the front of the top speed record?’ Maybe that will be the next one, we’ll see.” The Bugatti Tourbillon is logically the car that should do the job if Michelin can develop tires that can handle it under that car. The ‘basic’ top speed of the Tourbillon is currently 445 km/h.
