With nearly 3,000 horsepower, BYD’s electric vehicle is the most potent vehicle in the world
Welcome to the world of automotive excess. BYD is making a serious contribution with its electric Yangwang U9. It will soon be the most powerful car in the world. By quite a distance, even!
The Lotus Evija currently holds the record as the most powerful electric car and the most powerful car regardless of powertrain. This electric hypercar, boasting over 2,000 hp, is closely followed by the 1,927 hp Pininfarina Battista and its sibling Rimac Nevera (1,914 hp). The Yangwang U9—BYD’s electric super-exotic—is far from a wimp with its 1,305 hp, but that U9 is poised to leave all its rivals far behind.
Technical data for a new version of the Yangwang U9 in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows it doesn’t have the four 326 hp electric motors like the “regular” U9 but four units, each delivering 755 hp. This brings the system output to—brace yourself—a staggering 3,020 hp. Three thousand and twenty. The original was already capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 2.3 seconds. Whether that figure can be significantly reduced remains to be seen. The gains in the 0-200 km/h and 0-300 km/h times will undoubtedly be greater. Completely irrelevant, you might think. However, in a world where everything revolves around beating another expensive car on paper, that’s not the case.
The Yangwang U9 looks set to soon be the most powerful car in the world. Are you losing sleep over it?
