BYD Shows New Tech That Allows Leopard 8 SUV To Drive On 3 Wheels, Raise A Wheel For Tyre Change
BYD’s Fangchengbao shows new suspension tech that allows Leopard 8 SUV to drive on 3 Wheels, raise a wheel for tyre change.
New-gen DiSus-P Ultra intelligent hydraulic body control system debuted on updated Leopard 8 (Bao 8) Flash-Charge Edition SUV.

Earlier in the month, BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao brand launched the updated Leopard 8 (Bao 8) Flash-Charge Edition SUV in China, adding revised plug-in hybrid powertrains and a new-generation DiSus-P Ultra intelligent hydraulic body control system.
While the revised plug-in hybrid powertrains adds approximately 200 km of CLTC pure-electric range, the new DiSus-P Ultra intelligent hydraulic suspension system adds three core functions : wheel-lift recovery, wheel-lift tyre replacement, and three-wheel driving.

According to Car News China, the new DiSus-P Ultra allows the wheel of the SUVs to be raised by up to 300 mm, features three-wheel driving mode, and provides up to 200 mm of suspension travel adjustment.

In videos shared by multiple Chinese bloggers seen by Autojosh, the newly launched Bao 8 Flash-Charge Edition SUV was seen driving at a limited speed on three wheels during a media demonstration at BYD’s off-road proving ground.
During demonstrations, the Bao 8 (known as Denza B8 in some markets) also lifted individual wheels to cross uneven bridge-like structures and raised a front wheel affixed with heavy-duty clamp to drive on remaining three wheels.

In tyre replacement mode – which replaces traditional car jack system, the suspension can raise one wheel at a time. BYD said a tyre replacement process can be completed in 1 minute, though this was achieved in 1 minute and 56 seconds during the media demonstrations.
BYD said that the suspension system supports up to 9 tons of lifting force, while the three-wheel driving mode is limited to 15 km/h and designed for low-speed emergency situations.
