Nigeria Customs Zone A showcases N2B-worth of seizures, including 27 Tokunbo cars, declares tougher days for smugglers.

Comptroller of the unit, Kola Oladeji, made this known during his maiden press briefing on Tuesday, 28 May 2024.

He said the seizures were made within a month of his assumption of office, adding that 20 suspects were arrested.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Units Zone A, Ikeja, has declared tougher days for smugglers after making 203 seizures of contrabands worth over N2.2 billion within a month.

Comptroller of the unit, Kola Oladeji, who made this known during his maiden press briefing on Tuesday, 28 May 2024, said the seizures were made within one month of his assumption of office.

“203 seizures were made worth a cumulative duty paid value (DPV) of N2,262,849,547, while 20 suspects were arrested in connection with some of the seized goods.”

Notable among the seized items are 914 25-litre jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), equivalent to 22,850 litre, and 10,372 X 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice.





Others are 27 units of imported used vehicles, popularly known as Tokunbo Cars, 2,152 cartons of foreign frozen products, 6 units of imported used trucks and 625kg of Cannabis sativa.

Oladeji stated that it will no longer be business as usual for smugglers.

His words :

“This is just the beginning of tougher days for smugglers who try to defy our laws by bringing prohibited items into the country or attempting to underpay duty to the government, thereby undermining Nigeria Customs Service’s drive for maximum revenue collection.”

He added that :

“Let me restate that we shall be unrelenting in effecting seizures of wares from smugglers and arresting suspects for prosecution under the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. Showing these seizures is intended to discourage people from smuggling and similar crimes,”
