Max Verstappen And His Mercedes-AMG GT3 Team Disqualified After NLS2 Win Over Tyre Rule Breach
Max Verstappen and his Mercedes-AMG GT3 team disqualified after NLS2 win over tyre rule breach.
Technical Commission revealed that the team had used seven sets of tyres on race day instead of the permitted six.
Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing is owned by four-time F1 champion, Max Verstappen.

Max Verstappen, Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella, who lined up for the “Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing #3”, were disqualified hours after crossing the finish line first on Saturday due to a major tyre blunder.
Reacting to the disqualification, Mercedes-AMG explained that analysis of the so-called Tyre App by the Technical Commission revealed that the team had used seven sets of tyres on race day instead of the permitted six.”

The disqualification came after GT3 team owned by four-time F1 champion, Max Verstappen, claimed victory in the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS2) following a faultless drive from its lineup.
Operated in collaboration with 2 Seas Motorsport and Winward Racing, the GT3 team, officially known as Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing, partnered with Mercedes-AMG for a multi-year deal starting in 2026.

“The NLS weekend will remain in our memories for a long time: we saw pure racing on the track, experienced an extraordinary day in terms of atmosphere and were initially delighted with the supposed race victory,” said Stefan Wendl, Head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing.
“The disappointment was all the greater when we realised that we had made a mistake behind the scenes that morning and the race organisers were forced to disqualify the winning car. That hurts, and naturally everyone involved is very disappointed. It shows once again that you can only win on the Nordschleife if everything comes together.”
