For the first time since 2017, eleven (11) teams (22 drivers) will be participating at the 2026 Formula One World Championship after GM-backed Cadillac Formula 1 Team met their requirements to join the existing 10 teams, starting this year.

This season, Cadillac will join the 10 established teams including Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren, Aston Martin, Alpine, Williams, RB (formerly AlphaTauri), Audi (which replaces Sauber) and Haas at the grid.

Also this season, five power unit manufacturers – including Red Bull Racing – will be powering the F1 cars. This season, Red Bull and its junior team Racing Bulls will run the Red Bull Ford powertrains after their earlier dependants on Honda-supported power units.

Below are the five power unit manufacturers and the F1 2026 teams using their 1.6-litre V6 turbo engines that has remained the same since 2014 except the tweaks.

Mercedes (4) : Mercedes-AMG Petronas, McLaren, Williams and Alpine

Red Bull-Ford (2) : Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls

Ferrari (3) : Scuderia Ferrari, Cadillac and Haas

Honda (1) : Aston Martin

Audi (1) : Audi

F1’s new power units for 2026 will see a 50-50 split between electric power (from 20 percent) and the internal combustion engine – with the new MGU-K now nearly three times as powerful as its predecessor – delivering 350kW to the rear wheels (up from 120kW).

The first goal for these regs was to attract more engine builders, and that’s been a resounding success,” F1 said in a statement.

“F1 in 2026 has five power unit manufacturers, of which one is new and two are new-ish. Mercedes and Ferrari are the continuity names, and will be powering the bulk of the field. Mercedes have their works team, Williams, a new customer in Alpine and World Champions McLaren.”

“On top of that, we have a new collaboration between Red Bull and Ford that will power the two Red Bull teams. Honda return as a fully-fledged manufacturer with Aston Martin and, having taken over Sauber, the new Audi team of course have a new Audi power unit.”
