Cadillac Reveals 2026 VISTIQ All-electric Luxury SUV, Available In 4 Distinctive Trims, Starts At $79,000 - autojosh

Cadillac has recalled all 14,540 units of its Vistiq electric SUVs due to a power third-row seat defect that poses an injury risk if it fails to reverse when encountering an obstruction.

The recall concerns the power third-row seat of the Cadillac Vistiq, which can be folded using a button located in the trunk or on a pillar adjacent to the seat. In certain instances, the seat mechanism may fail to automatically reverse when encountering an obstruction. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this malfunction presents a risk of injury, as smaller occupants could become trapped beneath the seatback.

As of June 8, 2026, Cadillac has suspended shipments of the 2027 Vistiq to address this seat motor defect. As an interim measure, dealerships have been instructed to offer owners the option to disable the power-folding feature. While this measure enhances safety, it requires owners to choose a permanent position for the third row before departing the dealership, as the system currently lacks a manual override for raising or lowering the seats.

The fix will automatically return the seat to the upright position if an obstruction is detected, distinguishing it from the Hyundai Palisade recall, where seats continued folding despite obstacles. While the Vistiq issue poses an entrapment risk, the seats remain stationary rather than exerting force, allowing a nearby adult to manually reset them.

A GM engineer reported the defect via the Speak Up For Safety program on March 31. Testing revealed the seat stalls when encountering 33- to 40-pound objects, potentially trapping items. GM has received six complaints, but no injuries have been reported.
