Nigeria accounts for 75 percent of the total number of registered vehicles in West Africa. This was made known by Mr. Luqman Mamudu at the opening ceremony of the just concluded 3rd edition of the West Africa Automotive Show (WAAS), held between May 16 and May 18.

Mamudu, a former Director at the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), who spoke in his capacity as the Chairman of the WAAS 2023 Conference said :





“The total number of registered vehicles in West Africa is 15,507,000 and Nigeria accounts for 11,869,800 or 75%.. this is indicative of the market size for automotive products supply especially for repairs/replacement.”

Last month, the Lagos State Government through the Lagos Bus Service Limited (LBSL) officially launched the proof-of-concept phase of the Electric Vehicle (EV) mass transit buses for passenger operations in the State.

The revolutionary proof-of-concept phase, the EV pilot scheme, aims to demonstrate the electric bus technology and evaluate the operational, economic and environmental benefits of using electric buses in Lagos State.

For the pilot scheme, two electric buses brought in by Oando Clean energy Limited (OCEL), are currently plying the Oshodi-Ikorodu route. Each of these electric buses, marked with EV 01 and EV 02, has the ability to travel 280km at full charge, which far exceeds an average daily usage of 200-kilometers from existing diesel-powered BRTs.

An Ikeja Magistrate court has sentenced one Usman Moshood to two years imprisonment for damaging and stealing of BRT station’s facilities valued at N3 Million along the 13.65 kilometers shodi-Abule Egba BRT corridor.

The convict and his gang, who are still at large, were said to have unlawfully and willfully damaged the BRT infrastructure between January and June 2023 at Abule-Egba, Lagos.





Part of Press Release by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) reads :

“In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs. Ayodeji Funlola Akinyemi sentenced Moshood to two years imprisonment for stealing and one year imprisonment for unlawful and willful damage.

The two sentences will run concurrently, and Moshood will spend two years behind bars.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the inclusion of Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV), a rapid firefighting mini truck, into the presidential convoy, the first in the history of Nigeria.

The Controller General of Federal Fire Service, Jaji Abdulganiyu disclosed this on Thursday June 15 in Abuja while receiving the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Oluwatoyin Akinade.

Abdulganiyu said :

“Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the approval to include the Service Rapid Intervention Vehicle in his motorcade. This is the first in the history of Nigeria. ”
