Last month, members of the National Assembly and House of Representative announced their intention to go for Japanese-made Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series ultra-luxury SUVs as official vehicles instead of Nigerian-made vehicles.

While some of them justified the purchase by going for “something that we can maintain for another four years” as well as due to bad Nigerian roads, the Chief Whip of the Senate, Ali Ndume noted that indigenous automakers like Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing and Nord Automobile don’t manufacture their vehicles but assemble them in Nigeria.

Following their claim that they wanted a durable official vehicles that will last at least four years, Autojosh looks at how the flagship Jeep Cherokee-bssed Innoson IVM G80 SUV compares to the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser 300 SUV known for its offloading capabilities.

The Nigerian-assembled military-based IVM G80 SUV is a variant of the Chinese-built BAIC BJ80, which is also based on Beijing Qishi S12, a Beijing-made Jeep Cherokee.

While the G80 is never designed to rival the more expensive Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in terms ultra-luxury features, can the Nigerian-built IVM G80 offer the off-roading features the Senate so much crave for?

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series is clearly the winner from the above comparison, but Autojosh thinks the Nigerian-built Innoson G80 can still offer the off-roading comforts and durability that the Senate and the House of Representatives so much crave for — remember, buy Nigeria to grow the Naira.
