Hyundai Ioniq 5 Goes Off-Roading In New XRT Trim Model

Hyundai’s popular Ioniq 5 is getting a notable refresh for the 2025 model year. The update includes a larger battery and a new off-road-ready XRT trim. Hyundai USA has also integrated Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, offering Ioniq 5 owners convenient access to Tesla’s vast Supercharger network.

The XRT trim is a significant addition to the Ioniq 5 lineup. It has a 22.9 mm lift, specially tuned suspension, and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres, enhancing its capability on rough terrain. Unique bumpers with a “digital camouflage” pattern, available in distinctive colors like Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl, further distinguish the XRT. Its increased approach and departure angles, along with a pair of red-painted tow hooks capable of pulling up to 2,646 kg, enhance its off-road practicality.

The 2025 Ioniq 5 gets bigger batteries, resulting in increased range. The standard range now comes with a 63 kWh battery, up from 58 kilowatt-hours, while the long-range version has been bumped to 84 kWh, up from 77.4 kWh. Hyundai hasn’t specified power figures for the updated model, but the outgoing dual-motor trim produced 320 horsepower and 605 Nm of torque.

A major highlight of the 2025 Ioniq 5 is the inclusion of a NACS charging port, granting access to Tesla’s network of over 17,000 Supercharger stations across the US. This significantly expands charging options for Ioniq 5 owners and streamlines the charging experience. Hyundai will also provide a CCS adapter with each car, ensuring compatibility with existing charging infrastructure.

Other notable updates to the Ioniq 5 include refreshed exterior styling with new bumpers, a spoiler, and aerodynamically efficient wheels. The interior gets a redesigned climate control layout, USB-C ports, physical seat heater controls, and the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Hyundai is yet to announce pricing for the 2025 Ioniq 5, but it is expected to qualify for a $3,750 tax credit due to its production at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility in Georgia. The 2025 Ioniq 5 is slated to go on sale later this year, with initial models featuring the older CCS port. By the fourth quarter of 2024, all new Hyundai EVs will be equipped with the NACS port.
