The Director General, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr Joseph Osanipin, was a Special Guest of honour at the 2023 Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) awards held last week in Lagos.

Over 29 persons and companies who have distinguished themselves in the auto industry were specially recognised and honoured in different award categories at this year’s edition of NAJA Awards.

Speaking at the event, Joseph Osanipin applauded NAJA for standing firm in promoting the local auto industry. He also challenged the key players in the Nigerian Automotive Industry to think more on automotive components development and integration in assembly operations.

“Today we are here to celebrate however we need to challenge ourselves with the future of the Nigeria Automotive industry. We need to take the necessary steps to make these changes. It starts with us, we are the ones to determine where the automotive sector will be heading to in Nigeria.”

The NADDC boss also urged NAJA organizers to include an award category for ‘Components Parts Manufacturer of the year’ in future awards projects, saying :

“You know, without the components, you cannot have the whole. Components come together to make the whole. So please, let us start thinking about the whole. How can we start developing these components, because this is how we can grow our local contents.

“If we can do that, encourage them the way we encourage the big guys we will achieve our desired goal. Let us start encouraging the little guys so that we can pull them up.

“We have foams that we use for your chairs, we have plastics, you have glass that you use for your mirror, your windscreen. Let us start thinking.”
