The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) shows off Ikeja Train Station designed to complement the existing Ikeja Bus Station.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has shown off the soon to be commissioned Ikeja Train Station that is designed to complement the already existing Ikeja BRT Bus Station.

To help improve commuter travel experience, the new Ikeja Train Station, which is part of the Red Line Project, is connected with the Ikeja Bus Station.

“This is Ikeja Train Station connected with the Ikeja Bus Station to improve commuter travel experience. A new era in public transportation in Lagos is rising.”, said LAMATA.

When it becomes fully operational, the Ikeja Mega Terminal of the Red Line will have the capacity to transport over 1,000,000 (1 Million) passengers daily.

During a tour of the Red Line train station and overpass bridge at Ikeja in March, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said :

“Today, I was at the Ikeja Mega Terminal of the Red Line to inspect the level of work that has been put into the construction.

“The terminal serves as a multimodal point of exchange, bridging the gap between the Red Line and BRT buses on the Ikeja, Oshodi-Abule Egba axis.

“This project is important to me as it ties directly into our transportation plan and is instrumental into bringing Lagos into the forward-thinking city that we have envisioned for it to be.

“We are continously at work to make Lagos better and I give you my word, no matter the challenges that continually beset us, we will face them squarely as we continue to work hard to make life easier for our residents.”

The Red Line will traverse on standard gauge from Agbado to Oyingbo, in the first phase, while terminating at Iddo in the second phase. It will have eight stations and it is expected to reduce travel by over two hours.
