Lekki Residents Demand Coastal Road

The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association, which represents over 150 estates and communities between 1004 Estate and Epe, has praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for commissioning the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge to alleviate traffic congestion in Ikeja and its surrounds.

The proposed bridge was hailed as one of many projects to improve the lives of Lagosians in a statement issued by the association’s Chairman, Olorogun Emadoye, on Friday.

LERSA, on the other hand, encouraged the governor to immediately stop private developers from encroaching on land set aside for the development of the Lekki Coastal Road and to begin the process of making the project a reality.

The Lekki Coastal Road, once completed, will relieve traffic congestion on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, according to the association.

“We are pleased to note that while flagging off the construction of the bridge, the governor tagged the project as a ‘legacy project,’ the governor said the project was an innovative solution to the perennial gridlock around Opebi/Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way/Ojota/Mende corridor,” the statement read in part. This is a fantastic first step in the correct path.

“This long-awaited route, which the current administration promised, is intended to provide relief and alleviate the suffering of citizens who spend hours on the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Due to infringement by unlawful developments, the much-needed project, which would help ease the terrible traffic congestion on this axis, is currently in jeopardy.

“The association is, therefore, requesting that an immediate halt be placed on any development along the planned coastal road and for the governor to put in place the necessary machinery for the quick development of the Lekki Coastal Road.”

LERSA also praised the state’s many development projects, claiming that they will provide assistance to locals.

“The government’s attention is necessary around the Lekki axis, where the growing volume of economic activity has rendered the Lekki Coastal Road an urgent necessity,” the statement continued.
