McLaren Will Make Its Plans Known In The Coming Months
The future of McLaren was unclear. Following the manufacturer’s sale in 2024 and the appointment of a new CEO last year, few concrete details have emerged about the brand’s long-term direction. But that should change in the coming months.
In an interview with Autocar, McLaren managing director Nick Collins said the company will “start unpacking” its wider plans later this summer. Those plans will reportedly include an all-new lineup of sports cars with internal combustion engines and a long-awaited SUV, reports Motor1.
The announcement of the plans is expected to coincide with the start of deliveries of the W1 hypercar. As Collins explained, “As of this summer, we’re starting to go external [with our plans], either because we’re starting to ship the W1 or because we’re showing you the product.”
While the company has yet to confirm the details, several reports offer a glimpse of what could be happening. McLaren has already committed to developing new sports cars with internal combustion engines, which will likely include a successor to the 750S. The manufacturer also expressed plans to expand into “new product categories,” according to a statement released last April.
One of the most significant developments is the alleged SUV, codenamed “P47.” A November report suggests it will be a five-seat hybrid with proportions similar to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
As for an all-electric McLaren, that too is possible—but not an immediate priority. Collins noted that the company will build an electric vehicle “when our customers want it,” adding that the time is not yet right. More details are expected later this summer.
