The Most Popular New Car In The UK Right Now Is A Chinese Model

The Chinese Jaecoo 7 has achieved it in just a few months: it is the most popular new car in the United Kingdom. Not ‘among private individuals’ or under any other condition, but simply in total.
The striking popularity of the Jaecoo 7 among the British has received attention here before, but now Jaecoo has really pulled it off. In March 2026, the 7 held the top spot in UK sales statistics. In doing so, it also left the Ford Puma behind, which was the most popular car in the UK in 2025. According to SMMT data, 10,064 Jaecoo 7s were sold, while the Puma finished second with 9,193 units. Over the first three months of this year, the roles are still reversed, but the Jaecoo is hot on the Ford’s heels with 15,569 units compared to 16,128.
The Jaecoo 7 scores in the UK primarily by offering plenty of space and luxury at a competitive price, although tight financing conditions and the (somewhat) Range Rover-like appearance undoubtedly help as well. However, do not think that the fleet across the North Sea is rapidly becoming fully electric due to the Jaecoo’s sales figures: this car is not a BEV, but a hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
