Mercedes Admitted To Loosing Some C63 Customers After V8 Ditching
Mercedes decided to ditch the powerful twin-turbo V8 in the AMG C63 in 2022 and replace it with a hybrid powertrain based on a four-cylinder engine. As expected, the complex system delivers exceptional performance, but potential buyers will miss the auditory drama of a V8 engine.
AMG boss Michael Schiebe told Car Magazine:
Of course, there’s no doubt we’ve also lost some customers who loved V8 engines. You have to really drive this car. It’s a very compelling product.
We have come a long way with this technology, but we should have explained the technology more to our salespeople and customers. We will continue to do so and continue to improve. There is a German saying: you never get a second chance for a first impression. We may have missed the first impression, but if you have the chance, I am sure you will see the benefits of this technology.
The hybrid system remains with the AMG C63, but the new AMG CLE63 will get a V8, although it was originally planned to also get a hybrid system.
