As part of numerous development drives, two (2) Mercedes‑Benz VLE test vehicles successfully covered almost 1,100 kilometers from Stuttgart in Germany to Rome in Italy, with the future Grand Limousine demonstrating its suitability for everyday use on the long-distance route.

Mercedes-Benz said that the test vehicles easily covered the 1,090‑kilometer route from Stuttgart to Rome in flowing traffic in around 13 hours, with two stops for 30 minutes charging (15 minutes each).

“Our future MPVs have once again impressively demonstrated their suitability for everyday use on the long-distance route,” said Dr. Andreas Zygan, Head of Development Mercedes-Benz Vans.

“With just two short charging stops from Stuttgart to the Alps to Rome – the Mercedes‑Benz VLE demonstrates impressive efficiency of the new Van Electric Architecture”

First unveiled at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show, the ‘Mercedes-Benz Vision V’ previews future battery-powered chauffeur-driven Minivans – also known as Grand Limousines – that includes the VLE-Class and the flagship VLS-Class.

Some of the highlights on the exterior of the Vision V includes a massive new grille, a large rear window that is framed by over 450 three-dimensional illuminated louvres, which serve as taillights and brake lights.

Inside, one of the highlights of the “Private Lounge” seating area is the retractable, 65-inch cinema screen with split-screen functions that is operated via the touchpad in the centre console.

While the VLE with up to 8 seats will range from flexible vehicles for families and to exclusive VIP shuttles, Mercedes said that the more luxurious VLS “will define a unique segment of its own that bestows true greatness to automotive luxury”.
