MINI, which until yesterday was among the biggest advocates of electromobility, has now joined the growing group of car companies that have revised their previous decisions and decided that it is too early to give up on the internal combustion engine.

It seems that the demand for electric cars is far from expected, so MINI had to revise its previous plans, according to which they ambitiously announced a few years ago that they would offer only electric models before the end of the decade. Nothing of the sort.

“We are not giving up on full electrification, but we will have to postpone it, because it is evident that the demand for cars powered by internal combustion engines is still high, much higher than the demand for electric cars,” one of the MINI leaders told the media.

In parallel with the production of electric models, MINI will continue to develop and produce internal combustion gasoline engines assisted by hybrid systems, and in addition to various powertrains, the company’s plans also mention a new model that should be positioned above the Countryman in terms of dimensions.

BMW, under whose umbrella MINI is also located, has not stated the year from which it will no longer produce cars with internal combustion engines, nor do they think that customers should be forced to buy electric cars, but they believe that by the beginning of the next decade (with significant improvements in the number and capacity of chargers), more than 50 percent of their total annual production (including MINI and Rolls-Royce) could be electric cars. As a reminder, last year there were 17.4 percent.
