Nissan Reaches Milestone As It produced 1.5 Million Cars With e-Power Hybrid System
At the end of October, the Japanese manufacturer achieved a milestone of producing 1.5 million cars with its innovative e-Power hybrid system, which is part of a series of transition solutions leading to full electrification.
The philosophy behind this technology, which debuted on the production model in 2016, lies in a small gasoline turbo engine that works solely as an energy generator for the electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery. A gasoline engine with a variable compression ratio can generate electricity directly into the battery, can use an inverter to drive an electric motor that only drives the drive wheels, and can do both if necessary.
The first Nissan model powered by this hybrid system was the Note, launched in 2016 and available exclusively in the Japanese market. Then came the breakthrough to the Chinese market, where the first Nissan with the e-Power system was the Sylphy model, launched in 2021.
e-Power technology appeared in Europe in 2022, with the launch of hybrid versions for the new generations of X-Trail and Qashqai. By January 2024, more than 100,000 Nissans with this hybrid technology have been sold on the Old Continent. The technology will also debut in the US and Canadian markets by 2026.
Of the 1.5 million Nissan cars with e-Power technology, most are produced in Japan, where 1.17 million have been produced in the last eight years. In Europe, Nissan produced 140,000 units with this hybrid technology, and in China, 60,000 cars. The remaining 150,000 cars were produced outside the mentioned countries and regions.
Currently, Nissan models with e-Power technology are sold in at least 68 countries around the world.
