Nissan Z Replacement Not Happening Anytime Soon

Nissan won’t be launching the next-gen Z any time soon. Instead, the Japanese automaker plans to focus on creating special editions of the current-generation sports car before even discussing what’s next.

Speaking to The Drive, Ponz Pandikutira, senior vice president and chief product and planning officer at Nissan America, said Nissan plans to introduce heritage-based special editions “between now and, say, the next three years,” adding, “And then we’re actively talking about what the next generation will look like.”

According to Motor1, Nissan sold more than 5,000 copies of the coupe last year, which is an increase of as much as 73.4 percent. Sales are expected to drop in 2026 when Nissan launches the 2027 model year. The company is reducing production to better meet customer demand for the vehicle’s appeal.

The new Z is expected to arrive after the debut of the next-generation GT-R, which Nissan is expected to reveal before 2030.
