Police Recovers 3 Hilux Trucks Used By Gunmen Who Attacked INEC Office, Station In Anambra
Police recovers three (3) Toyota Hilux pickup trucks used by gunmen who attacked INEC office, police station in Anambra.
Officers of the Nigerian Police Force on duty yesterday repelled attacks on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Awka as well in ‘B’ division police station in Anambra state.
Reports gathered that three (3) Toyota Hilux pickup trucks used by the attackers were successfully recovered by the police. The attack was said to have happened around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
A witness who almost ran into the troubled area located between the popular Ekwueme Square, Awka, said the bandits shot into the air close to one hour at B Police Division before proceeding to INEC office.
The source, who pleaded for anonymity, said before proceeding to INEC, the gunmen drove to Aroma junction and shot in the air for about 10 minutes which made residents scamper for safety before they headed down to INEC.
Though the source said he could not speak on causality figure, he added that there was the likelihood of colossal damage at both institutions with many feared killed.
“I saw flames of fire going up from the police station and INEC offices, but I cannot say whether people were killed or not because I did not go closer,” he said.
Three of the Hillux vans at the INEC headquarters were unregistered.
While one of the vans was demobilized by the police, another ran into an electric pole, while the third was abandoned by the attackers.
A police officer, who pleaded anonymity, said no casualty was registered from both side.
The entire area has been cordoned off, while newsmen are still waiting for the briefing and inspection of the attacked facility by CP Chris Awolabi.
