Porsche CEO Oliver Blume Replaces Herbert Diess As Volkswagen Group Chairman

Herbert Diess resigns as Volkswagen Group Chairman, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume becomes new boss.
Oliver Blume, who takes over from 1st of September 2022, will remain as Porsche CEO in the long term.
Blume joined the Volkswagen Group in 1994 and became the Chairman of the Porsche AG in 2015.
He has held management positions for the Volkswagen brands AUDI, SEAT, Volkswagen and Porsche.
The Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG has appointed Porsche Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Oliver Blume, as the new Chairman of the Group Board of Management, during its meeting on Friday.
The new Volkswagen Group boss, who will take over this position with effect as of 1 September, will at the same time remain Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG – also after a possible IPO.
Blume will replace Herbert Diess, who will resign as Chairman of the Board of Management by mutual agreement, having arrived at Volkswagen in July 2015, just months before the Dieselgate scandal broke.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Hans Dieter Pötsch, thanked Herbert Diess on behalf of the entire board:
“During his tenure as Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand and as Chairman of the Group Board of Management, Herbert Diess played a key role in advancing the transformation of the company.
“The Group and its brands are viable for the future; its innovative capabilities and earning power are strengthened. Mr. Diess impressively demonstrated the speed at which and consistency with which he was able to carry out far-reaching transformation processes.
“Not only did he steer the company through extremely turbulent waters, but he also implemented a fundamentally new strategy.”
New Volkswagen Group boss, Oliver Blume, said:
“I am very excited to lead both Porsche AG and the Volkswagen Group. My focus will be on the customers, brands and products. The human component is always at the forefront for me. Team spirit, fairness and passion are essential for success, and this applies to the brands as well as the Group.
“The Porsche team can rely on me to lead the company over the long term – also after a possible IPO. We have put Porsche on a successful footing technologically, financially and culturally – and see ourselves as a leader of sustainable mobility.”
Oliver Blume joined the Volkswagen Group in 1994 and, since then, he has held management positions for the brands AUDI, SEAT, Volkswagen and Porsche. He has been the Chairman of the Board of Management at Porsche since 2015 and a member of the Group Board of Management since 2018.
