Porsche Discontinues The Taycan Sport And Cross Turismo In The US
The long-roof Taycan models’ demise has been widely overstated. Although Porsche is discontinuing the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo in the US, both models will continue to exist in other countries. A business representative confirmed in a statement to Motor1 that the Stuttgart plant will keep producing the more useful iterations of the company’s initial electric vehicle.
In a related development, Porsche is happy to report that the Taycan sedan can now reach the 700-kilometer range mark for the first time in Europe. To reach 435 miles of range, you must choose a rear-wheel-drive model with the larger battery pack and new low-rolling-resistance summer tyres if you reside in one of the 27 EU member states.
As usual, several factors determine actual driving range, and the WLTP rating is known to be excessively optimistic, particularly when compared to the EPA norm. The Taycan Sport Turismo can now cover 417 miles (671 km) on a single charge thanks to this configuration.
The Taycan Is Getting Up There In Years
One of Porsche’s oldest models, the Taycan was introduced close to the end of 2019. The first-generation Macan is the only car that has been around for longer, but it will no longer be produced this summer. Although the company’s new CEO has not ruled out combining the Taycan and Panamera lineups to save expenses, Zuffenhausen has not yet mentioned a second generation. But no choice has been made.
In the upcoming months, we might find out more about the Taycan’s future. Michael Leiters will describe “any additions or adjustments to the product portfolio” this autumn. Combustion engines are here to stay, no matter what. Following the failure of its EV bet, Porsche is once again embracing ICE cars and intends to continue selling gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles well into the 2030s.
It’s unknown if another wagon is on the radar, but we wouldn’t expect it. Porsche attributes the loss of the Taycan Turismo models in the United States to poor sales, while the current generation Panamera is only available as a five-door liftback.
