Rap songs talk about many things. However, one of the most frequently mentioned things are cars.

Hip-hop and car culture have long been tied at the hip.

As Hip-hop has expanded to reach different cultures, the music genre has always reflected the importance of having nice cars.

Some rappers have incorporated their favourite vehicles in hip-hop music. From Bugattis to Beamers, to Lambos and even vintage cars. These have become fixtures of Hip-hop music.

“The Boomin’ System” is the first single released from LL Cool J’s fourth album, Mama Said Knock You Out. It was released on August 7, 1990.

“Rollin’ in My 5.0”- Vanilla Ice (1991)

“Rollin’ in my 5.0” is a Hip hop song by American rapper Vanilla Ice. The song was released on March 1, 1991.

In the song, the Ice talks about his iconic 5.0 Liter Foxbody Mustang (Ford Mustang (third generation)). He raps about his adventures cruising around Miami with the V.I.P. Posse, looking for girls while competing in illegal street racing. Watch the video below.



‘Officer’ – The Pharcyde (1992)

“Officer” is one of the songs on the album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde. It was done by the rap group, The Pharcyde. The album was released on November 24, 1992.

The song “Officer” touches on the topic of racial profiling by policemen suffered by black people when driving cars in America.

“Back Seat (of My Jeep)” – LL Cool J  (1993)

“Back Seat (of My Jeep)” is another song about cars by LL Cool J. It was released as a single on June 1, 1993, on the Def Jam Record label. It was taken from his fifth album 14 Shots to the Dome.

“Let Me Ride” is a 1993 single by rapper and producer Dr Dre. It was the third single from his debut studio album, The Chronic. The song features Snoop Dogg, Ruben & Jewell.

‘Fantastic Voyage’ – Coolio (1994)

“Fantastic Voyage” is a song by American rapper Coolio. It was released in March 1994 as the third single from his debut album, It Takes a Thief.

It heavily samples the 1981 song, “Fantastic Voyage” by Lakeside.

The song talks about riding in a car accompanied by friends and how that feels!

“Just Cruisin'” is a single by rapper and Hollywood star, Will Smith. The sound was released on 1 December 1997. It features on Men in Black: The Album, the movie soundtrack.

In the song, Will talks about taking a break from his busy actor, rapper, TV personality schedules and just cruising the city in his car to somewhere to clear his mind.

“Lowrider” is the second single by Cypress Hill from the album Stoned Raiders. The song was released on February 26, 2002.

The song, in its explicit and condescending manner, talks about how inviting women into his car is a pickup line.

“Top Back” is a song by rapper T.I. It featured in his fourth studio album King. The song was released on December 12, 2006.

The remix features fellow American rappers Young Jeezy, Young Dro, Big Kuntry King and B.G.

“Fast Money, Fast Cars” is a song by Nigerian rapper M.I. Abaga. The song featured Nigerian music sensation Wizkid. It was released in 2008.

In the song, M.I mimics a snobbish female that wants nothing to do with men that do not drives flashy cars. In the song, M.I does a clever wordplay using Nigerian nicknames for car models.

“Beamer, Benz, or Bentley” is the first official single from Lloyd Banks’ third album H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More 2). It was released on November 23, 2010.

‘Ferrari Boyz’ – Gucci Mane & Waka Flocka Flame (2011)

‘Ferrari Boyz’ is a rap song in an album of the same title. It is a collabo by Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame. It was released on 9 August 2011.

The song lyrics – together with its video – features the car, Ferrari. The song basically talks about Ferraris and impressing girls with them.

‘Bugatti’ – Ace Hood, Rick Ross & Future  (2013)

“Bugatti” is a rap song by American hip hop recording artist Ace Hood. It was released on January 29, 2013, in Ace Hood’s 4th studio album – Tribulations.

The hook of the songs goes “I woke up in the new Bugatti”.

Ace Hood admitted in a video interview that he doesn’t actually own a Bugatti, but the line “woke up in a new Bugatti.” means he’s waking up with success.
