Fake News: Gov. Sanwo-Olu Didn’t Say LASTMA Shouldn’t Arrest Traffic Offenders

The Lagos State Government has not banned LASTMA from arresting violators of traffic laws and restricted to traffic control. According to the Lagos State Government, the report is fake news.

Recall that the report has been trending on social media.

Debunking the claim earlier today via his social media was Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to Lagos State Governor.

According to Akosile, “Beware of this fake news circulating on social media platforms especially via WhatsApp. Governor @jidesanwoolu didn’t say that @followlastma shouldn’t arrest traffic offenders. It is a lie from the pit of hell. Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the Law”.

Recall that, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has earlier debunked the same story as untrue.

A release issued by the LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye refuted the claim that the decision emanated from a meeting between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Executive Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at an unspecified date, time or venue.

According to him, “the 2018 Traffic Law clearly spelt out the duties of LASTMA officers, saying that it is irresponsible and mischievous for any individual to insinuate that the governor gave directives contrary to the law”.
