SRT, the previously inactive sub-brand of Stellantis, has been officially revived. It promises to deliver new, highly capable, enthusiast-focused vehicles from Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler.

Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Ram and newly appointed Head of US Brands for Stellantis, has been hired to oversee the resurrection of SRT. The sub-brand, originally established in 1989 to produce the Viper, is currently used on only one model, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, an SUV that will be sold in limited quantities starting in 2020.

“We’re getting the band back together,” Kuniskis stated. “As we plan our product launches, we’re focusing on SRT to deliver unmatched performance. We’re working with our teams to select top engineers in powertrain and vehicle dynamics to uphold the SRT name.”

Stellantis didn’t say exactly what the new SRT team will be working on, but we can make a few educated guesses, according to Motor1. With the return of the Hemi V8, SRT will likely return to producing muscle cars that focus on speed and noise, similar to what happened in the Hellcat golden age.

An announcement video showing V8 engine sounds and telling viewers “it’s time to be loud again” supports that theory.

Cars bearing the SRT badge “will push the boundaries of power, aerodynamics, handling and technology, both on the street and on the track,” according to Stellantis.

It’s not known when the next new SRT-badged vehicle will arrive, though given the speed with which Kuniskis has reformed Ram so far, we wouldn’t be surprised to see something before the end of the year.
