Sales of U.S. manufacturers General Motors (GM) and Ford rose in the second quarter of 2025, but growth slowed compared to early in the year, when consumers rushed to buy vehicles before new import tariffs.

In the three months from April to June, “General Motors “sold a total of 746,590 vehicles in the USA, which is a seven percent increase compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Still, that’s less than the 17 percent rise in the first quarter, when the market was buoyed by the announcement of tariffs.

In the first half of 2025, “General Motors “delivered 1.44 million vehicles, which represents an increase of 11.6 percent year-on-year.

A significant jump was recorded in the electric vehicle segment, where General Motors more than doubled sales compared to the previous year, according to a statement on the company’s website.

“Ford “had an even stronger quarterly growth as its sales increased by 14.2% year-on-year to 612,095 vehicles, thanks to an aggressive discount policy and promotions, CNN reports.

In the first half of 2025, “Ford “sold 1.11 million vehicles, which is 6.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the segment of electrified vehicles (including hybrids and plug-in hybrids), Ford recorded a record result: sales increased by 6.6 percent year-on-year to 82,886 units, reports Tanjug.
