BMW Recalls Over A Thousand Vehicles Due To A Starter Motor Problem
Germany’s BMW is recalling hundreds of thousands of cars due to a starter motor problem that could, in the worst case, cause a fire.
Various models manufactured between September 2015 and September 2021 are said to be affected.
BMW did not disclose the exact number of vehicles affected by the recall. As they discovered, 136,500 vehicles were affected in Germany, and an additional 195,000 in the United States. The total number may be higher, as the recall also includes Asia and other European countries, according to the DPA.
According to BMW, water in the affected vehicles may seep into the starter in some places and cause corrosion. As a result, the engine may no longer be able to start. A short circuit can also occur, and the starter can overheat. In the worst case, a fire can break out, the company explained.
The company emphasized that this can also happen when the car is parked. The US Federal Highway Safety Administration therefore advises owners of affected vehicles to park outside and away from buildings until repairs are completed.
The Bavarian automaker did not disclose the cost of the recall.
