The first outside the UK : Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) begins local production of Range Rover, Range Rover Sport in India.

Local production in one of JLR’s biggest market is expected to reduce the prices of the flagship SUVs by 18-22 per cent.

Flagship SUVs will join the Range Rover range, including the Velar and Evoque that are already being assembled in India.

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is set to begin the local assembly of the flagship Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport at its Pune plant in India, marking the first time ever that the models will be produced outside of the UK.

The flagship SUVs will join the Range Rover range, including the Velar and Evoque as well as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Jaguar F-Pace that are already being assembled in India.

The local production in one of JLR’s biggest market is expected to reduce the prices of the flagship Range Rover SUVs by 18-22 per cent, according to Rajan Amba, the Managing Director and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover India.

“We believe customers who were hesitant will make that leap, and it should add to the growth in Range Rover and Range Rover Sport,” said Amba.

“This is the first time that these flagship brands are coming out of Sollihul (in the UK) are being made anywhere else. This is a reflection of JLR’s commitment to India and the power of consumerism in this country, especially at the premium end,” he said.

According to Amba, the India-assembled Range Rovers will be available for delivery by the end of May, while the Range Rover Sport will hit the market by the middle of August.





“We can produce world class quality in India – and that’s the reason we can produce the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport here as well. The team in Pune ensures really high quality,” said Lennard Hoornik, chief commercial officer, JLR.

“With the local manufacturing opportunity here, we can really play into the opportunity (of customers seeking premium, customised products.”
