The Last Of Its Kind : The Final Bugatti Mistral Has Been Built, Marking The End Of W16 Engine

The 99th and final example of the W16 Mistral, dubbed ‘The last of its kind,’ has been hand-assembled by the craftspeople in Molsheim, marking the end of production for Bugatti’s open-top sibling to the now iconic Chiron hypercar.
Finished in a two-tone Pearl and Sparkle livery over a Magnolia and Grey Carbon Matt interior, this final example of the ultimate roadster is also the last to use the mighty 8.0-liter W16 engine. First seen in 2005 in the Veyron, this iconic powerplant also went on to power the Chiron and the Divo.

Inside, the final W16 Mistral boasts sketches of previous Bugatti models on the door panels, and the customer opted for a falcon head instead of Bugatti’s traditional dancing elephant sculpture on the gearshift.

Other distinct features on the final W16 Mistral include Ettore Bugatti’s signature—stitched into the headrests and rendered in aluminium along the door sills—as well as an armrest plate titled ‘Spirit of the Wind,’ which is cast in frozen crystal glass.
“The W16 Mistral was always conceived as the ultimate open-top expression of the W16 engine – a car built to let our customers feel that incredible engineering masterpiece in its purest form, with the roof down,” Hendrik Malinowski, said Managing Director of Bugatti.

At the time of its unveiling at Monterey Car Week in 2022, all 99 examples of the Bugatti W16 Mistral were already sold out despite a base price of $5 million each. Bespoke commissions later pushed the price of a few examples to the $10 million mark.
Before series production began at the start of 2025, Bugatti Pilote Officiel Andy Wallace took the one-of-one W16 Mistral World Record Car to 453.91 km/h (282 mph) at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg, a top speed that made the W16 Mistral the fastest open-top production car in the world.
