The Petrol Powered Porsche Macan Still Sells Better Than The New EV Model

Although the older petrol version is unavailable in Europe, sales of Porsche’s SUV are not slowing down. On the contrary, it is even surprisingly good. In the first three months, Porsche sold 10,130 gasoline units, that is, 2,051 more than electric ones.

Completely unexpected, because the fossil-fuelled Macan should have retired earlier.

After the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models ceased production in October 2025, it has been officially confirmed that the last Macan with an internal combustion engine will roll off the assembly line this summer.

But unlike the usual practice of phasing out production, Porsche is going in the opposite direction at the Leipzig plant – producing as many petrol Macans as possible before production ends. Board member for finance and IT, Jochen Breckner, said that Porsche is stockpiling “as much as possible”, depending on production capacity and availability of parts. Apparently, they could last until the end of the year.

Breckner points out that the Macan is still “very much in demand” in the US market, even though the model is about 12 years old. And the abolition of the American incentive of 7,500 USD does not favor the introduction of the electric version either.

Porsche is already preparing a successor, but it won’t arrive so soon. As part of a joint investment of one billion euros with Audi, a new petrol SUV is being developed, which will be positioned below the Cayenne model. The arrival is expected in 2028, and the model will bear a new name. In doing so, it will share technology with the Audi Q5 model, but it will retain its characteristic Porsche character.
